They can answer your questions about any of the resources listed here, help you decide what to do next, and listen to your concerns. You can remain anonymous if you wish.

Psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, and predoctoral interns can provide either brief or ongoing counseling, free of charge. Call for an appointment. Emergencies are seen the same day. All visits are confidential.

To report an assault that occurred on campus, call Public Safety. They can also be reached immediately from any blue light phone on campus. UM police are members of the Coral Gables Police Department. If you prefer to have a female respond to your call they will try to accommodate you.

Physicians, nurses and counselors provide care, counseling, and provide rape exams free of charge. The rape exam involves treating your injuries, preventing pregnancy, and collecting evidence of the assault. You do not have to use the evidence unless you choose to pursue legal action. But if you ever decide to make a police report, the rape exam is a central component.

Physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants can treat injuries or possible sexually transmitted diseases (STDS), provide pregnancy prevention and birth control information, and provide any needed follow up medical care. However, the Health Center cannot collect evidence or do a formal rape exam. Therefore, we strongly advise that you go to the Rape Treatment Center first if you were assaulted in the past 72 hours.

If you decide that you don’t want to make a police report, but you do want the University to know about an assault, this is the office to call. Female and male deans are available. The Dean of Students Office also is the site of The Sandler Center, UM's Substance Abuse Education and Prevention Center.
