The Counseling Center provides mental health services to UM students on the Miller School of Medicine Campus (UMMSM) by addressing the unique needs of this campus through the delivery of confidential clinical services, targeted outreach and prevention programs, engagement with faculty and staff, and development of materials tailored to the UMMSM.

To schedule an appointment, call 305-284-5511. Inform reception staff that you would like to schedule an appointment on the Miller School of Medicine Campus. Please have your C Number available upon contacting our office.
The UM Counseling Center will primarily be providing care through a Telemental Health Option, either over the phone or video conferencing. Limited in-person sessions will be offered and contingent on Covid related conditions. Masks are required to be worn at all times while inside the Counseling Center, and all in-person services must be conducted wearing a mask (provider and student), regardless of vaccination status.
The UM Counseling Center will have limited spaces available for students to conduct their Telemental Health sessions, should they need a private space. Availability of these spaces will be dependent on demand. Please bring your own equipment to conduct your Telemental Health session, as none will be provided.
If you are experiencing any Covid-19 related symptoms such as fever, chills, cough and shortness of breath please schedule a Telemental Health Visit with the UM Counseling Center or call to speak with one our office assistants.
1. You may schedule a brief assessment.
When you come in for your initial appointment, you will meet with a counselor for 50 minutes to discuss your concerns and develop a treatment plan.
Should you have an urgent situation and would like to meet with a clinician at the UMMSM/medical campus, please call the Counseling Center at 305-284-5511 to speak with the reception staff and they can provide you information. Due to the nature of the counseling office at the Medical Campus, a walk-in service is not available at this time. However, any student can use the walk-in service of the Counseling Center at the Gables Campus without scheduling an appointment. Please visit our emergency services page for more information.

When arriving for any appointment at the UMMSM, please go to Dominion Tower, Suite 514. Please use your access card to enter the suite.
Confidentiality
UM Counseling Center records are confidential and are separate from other university records. The privacy of communication between clients and mental health professionals is protected by law. Information about students or their treatment cannot be disclosed to others without their written consent, except for cases of imminent danger to themselves or others, reports of child/elder/disabled abuse, or a court order.
Psychiatry
Psychiatric services are provided to graduate students at the Counseling Center on the Gables Campus for an additional fee. Medical students must seek psychiatric services through the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences on the Medical Campus (UMBH) by contacting 305-243-2774. Medical students cannot be seen at the Counseling Center. Graduate students may also seek services through UMBH. If using the psychiatric services at UMBH, the first 5 sessions are provided free of charge for both graduate and medical students.
