Miller School of Medicine Campus

The Counseling Center provides mental health services to UM students on the Miller School of Medicine Campus (UMMSM) by addressing the unique needs of this campus through the delivery of confidential clinical services, targeted outreach and prevention programs, engagement with faculty and staff, and development of materials tailored to the UMMSM.

The goals of this service model include:

  • Support for UM students’ mental wellness, through a service model that includes brief assessment, short-term counseling, outreach, and crisis intervention.
  • Meet the expressed need of UM students, faculty, and staff at the UMMSM for services on their campus.
  • Make services more easily accessible and available to UM students at the UMMSM

How to Make an Appointment

To schedule an appointment, call 305-284-5511. Inform reception staff that you would like to schedule an appointment on the Miller School of Medicine Campus. Please have your C Number available upon contacting our office. 

In-person and telemental health options (by video or phone) are available for UM Students. 

The UM Counseling Center has limited spaces available for students to conduct their telemental health sessions, should they need a private space. Availability of these spaces will be dependent on demand. Please bring your own equipment to conduct your telemental health session, as none will be provided.

If you are experiencing any illness symptoms such as fever, chills, cough and shortness of breath please schedule a telemental health visit with the UM Counseling Center or call to speak with one our office assistants.

1. You may schedule a brief assessment.

    • Please complete the clinic paperwork on-line prior to your appointment.
    • When arriving for your appointment, use your access card in the elevator and go to CRC 8th floor. Take a right as you exit the elevator then a left at the end of the hall. Room 863 (waiting room) will be on your right.

When you come in for your initial appointment, you will meet with a counselor for 50 minutes to discuss your concerns and develop a treatment plan.

Crisis Appointments

Should you have an urgent situation and would like to meet with a clinician at the UMMSM/medical campus, please call the Counseling Center at 305-284-5511 to speak with the reception staff and they can provide you with information. Due to the nature of the counseling office at the Medical Campus, a walk-in service is not available at this time. However, any student can use the walk-in service of the Counseling Center at the Gables Campus without scheduling an appointment. Please visit our emergency services page for more information.

Checking-in for Appointment

Confidentiality

UM Counseling Center records are confidential and are separate from other university records. The privacy of communication between clients and mental health professionals is protected by law. Information about students or their treatment cannot be disclosed to others without their written consent, except for cases of imminent danger to themselves or others, reports of abuse of a child/elder/individual with a disability, or a court order.

Psychiatry

Psychiatric services are provided to graduate and medical students at the Counseling Center on the Gables Campus for an additional fee. Medical and graduate students can also seek psychiatric services through the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences on the Medical Campus (UMBH) by emailing: psychmedstudentprog@miami.edu .  If using the psychiatric services at UMBH, the first 5 sessions are provided free of charge for both graduate and medical students.
